Paris

This is the TGV.... Train Grand Vitesse (something like that). It goes very fast. We got to Paris in 1.5 hours. The restaurant car was pretty cool; we sat here and watched the landscape go by.

Notre Dame at night. This is the first thing we saw upon arrival, because it was on the way to the hotel.

Notre Dame interieur... tres formidable! The interior of Notre Dame is cavernous, with that Gothic vertical feel.

One more shot of Notre Dame. It is actually difficult to not take pictures of Notre Dame. And I have more where these came from...

This is the Palais de Justice (which houses the Conciergerie). I thought this building had a great look... really French looking architecture.

The infamous Conciergerie. This is basically a prison. Both Marie Antoinette and Robspierre were held here befor being Guillotined in Place de la Concorde. Also, over 2,700 were sentenced to death here during the French Revolution.

This is the very impressive Hotel de Ville at night. In 1610, Henry IV's assasin Ravaillac was quartered alive here by four horses, all bolting in different directions.

This is the courtyard of the Louvre... the photo is grainy, but it sort of captures the feel of this. It was very impressive.

Rooftops of Paris with the Eiffel Tower in the background. This was taken from the Pompidou Center.

The Seine at night.

These are 2 shots of streets in the Latin Quarter, near our hotel. Very hip, lots of people milling around. This was a pretty cool area I thought.

St. Chappelle.

Interieur of St. Chapelle.

This is just a street somewhere, but I like the colors in this photo. Tim was like, "Why are you taking a photo of that scaffolding".

These musicians were playing a lively tune with a distinctly eastern European feel... like Romanian or Russian. Sort of like a dance number, which accelerated. Outside the Pompidou Center (AKA. Beaubourg).

The bartender at this bar was a cool guy. He was playing a sort of "slapping" game with this woman. She would slap him hard in the face, then he would slap her pretty hard, etc. etc. This went on for quite a while.

Musee d'Orsey. Van Gogh. Awesome.

This is me standing next to Manet's "Dejeuner Sur l'Herbe"... this is much more impressive when seen it person. It was large.

Tim looking at Manet's "Olympia". Basically, all the paintings you see in all the art books were here at the Musee d'Orsey.

Musee d'Orsey again. It was converted from an old railway station.

Statue.

Another statue. These were both pretty nice.

Van Gogh's famous painting of his bedroom in Arles. He painted this when he was living at the yellow house, just before Gauguin arrived and ruined everything.

OK, now we are at the Centre Pompidou, also called Beaubourg. This is a more modern art museum. I really liked this painting by Matisse... I kept going back to look at it again and again.

Installation by Joseph Beuys... this was really cool.

Matisse self portrait... also very cool, great colors, etc.

Here is some idiot painting in front of the famous Renoir painting (I forget the name)... this is at Musee d'Orsey. I think these guys just like the attention, because there was a big crowd standing around watching this guy. As you can see... he is somewhat of a hack.

This is a cool painting by Picasso. The next day we went to the Picasso museum, but by then the camera battery had died. The museum was pretty good. And as I was standing there looking at the "Death of Casemagas", this big fat guy walks in with a buynch of other people, and he is exclaiming "Oh yeah.. I love these. Love em." I turned to look, it was Julian Schnabel, the enfant terrible of NYC postmodernism. I was going to try to get his autograph, but decided not too, it was too ridiculous.

This is some famous Dadaist sculpture, but I dont know anything about it.

This advertisement was all over Paris... this is the side of a tour bus.
