Photo Optimization

Proper optimization of web graphics is often overlooked, especially on some of the larger websites. I always pay attention to the small details that can often really improve a website's look.

Example 1 - Photo Overhaul

These photos were very poorly done: they were too dark and out of focus, with bad contrast and weak colors. After some adjustment, the photos looked remarkably better.

Example 2 - Product Photos

This is an example of a badly done product photo - the product actually had dirt smudges on it. This involved removing the gray background and cleaning up the dirt. I also adjusted the color saturation and levels and sharpened the focus a bit.

Example 3 - Sharpening

Many photos on the web could use some basic sharpening and levels adjustment.

Example 4 - Photo Retouching

This is a photo of my ex-girlfriend's great uncle, which unfortunately was torn into 4 pieces. I reworked the photo in Photoshop. You have to be careful not to overdo it or it will start to look like a bad airbrush job... that's why I left part of the ear unfinished. see the final photo
